What Fats are Healthy & Why

Reductive stress is an imbalance caused by excess reducing agents (like NADH, NADPH, or glutathione) that overwhelm normal redox signaling, impairing mitochondrial function and promoting inflammation.

Dietary fats strongly influence this balance — excess saturated or omega-6 fats can increase reductive stress by overloading mitochondria and disrupting electron flow, while balanced intake of monounsaturated and omega-3 fats helps restore redox and metabolic efficiency.

Monounsaturated fats are healthy fats that support heart and metabolic health by improving lipid balance and reducing oxidative stress.

Common Sources of Monounsaturated Fats

• Extra Virgin Olive oil

• Avocados and avocado oil

• Macadamia nuts and oil

• Almonds and almond oil

• Hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios

• Grassfed grass finished tallow

These fats help stabilize cell membranes, improve insulin sensitivity, and lower LDL while maintaining HDL — in contrast to polyunsaturated omega-6 or trans fats, which can increase inflammation.
