Those of us who have benefited from a paleo or keto lifestyle have learned to avoid starches because they are broken down into simple carbohydrates which raise blood sugar levels and in turn trigger insulin secretion.
However, it turns out that a particular starch called resistant starch is particularly healthy and promotes similar health benefits as a keto diet.
Besides being a source of fiber, resistant starches support healthy gut bacterial growth, increase insulin sensitivity, preserve lean body mass and enhance the body’s production of butyrate.
Butyrate is used to make ketones and stimulates many of the same longevity promoting pathways as ketones.
Ketones are a potent source of energy for our brains and muscles and bypasses the need for glucose.
